If you stay in Sri Lanka so you must go Whale Watching. Whales and Dolphins Watching is on oft the major Tourist Attractions in Sri Lanka. You can book the Whale Watching trip everywhere. You can book the trip in restaurants, tourist office, taxi drivers, internet or you can go by yourself to the Mirissa harbour or buy the Whale Watching ticket directly by the Whale Watching boat. In the morning from about 7:00 A.M. are starting about 50 Whale Watching boats from the Mirissa harbour. If you go by yourself to the Mirissa harbour you can choose the boat what you like. If you buy your ticket in a tourist office or anywhere you have to use the boat from the ticket. If you don’t like than this boat, you can’t change it! The price for the boat ticket is about 4000 LKR until 9000 LKR (depending on the boat and how many middlemen’s you have to pay.) If you need a transport by car or bus to Mirissa you have also buy a ticket for this.
The normal price by minibus for about 20 miles about 1000-2000 LKR for 2 ways. If you use the public service vehicle the price for this way is only 30LKR.
The best time for Whale and Dolphin Watching
The boat is starting about 7:00 A.M. You drive with the boat 3 to 6 hours on the sea. It is depending on how many whales do you see and how fast the captain from the boat can find the whales. Sometimes you are be favored by fortune than you drive one hour and you can see many Whales. Sometimes you are out of luck you drive 6 hours and you can see nothing. The same situation by dolphin watching.
But!! If you can see non Whales and Dolphins and you are back in 3 hours than has somebody pull over the barrel you.
On the vessel usually you get a small breakfast. It is very small. Also you get usually free drinking water on the vessel.
If you go Whale Watching it is very important:
- Don’t forget sun protection products with high sun protection factor!
- Don’t forget the headgear!
- Don’t forget your camera!
